Gaston Acurio

Is credited with a worldwide revival of Peruvian cuisine, which has made him a national hero and a worldwide superstar. Acurio has over 40 restaurants worldwide – including his Astrid & Gaston – but is also known for his philanthropic work, which includes a culinary school, part of a wider social project in Pachacútec – as well as his passion for cultural, social and environmental issues. In 2011, for example, he successfully lobbied against the use of GM crops in Peru, which were subsequently banned for ten years. This year, Acurio will take part in the World Food Programme’s #HealthyNotHungry campaign, a series of high profile dinners advocating sustainable food systems that will help eradicate global malnutrition.
